Guidelines for Reviews


Anthropology of Consciousness
publishes book, film, and video reviews related to the anthropological and scientific study of consciousness.  Reviews should not exceed 1000 words for single-authored books or 1250 words for edited collections.   Longer manuscripts will be returned to authors for shortening.All direct quotations from reviewed books should be accompanied by page numbers.   Other works may be cited, but the number of these should be kept to a minimum.   Citation style in the text and reference list should follow that of the American Anthropologist and articles submitted to AOC (see Guidelines for Authors of Articles).  Authors are responsible for the complete and accurate preparation of references.  Manuscripts with incomplete references will be returned with requests for the missing information.Reviews should be headed with the following information in the following order:For a book
Shadow of Childhood: Neoteny and the Biology of Religion.  Weston La Barre. Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1991.  190 pp. $18.95 (cloth).For a film or video
The Shrine. 1990.  A video by Bob Paris and Christine Badgley.  46 minutes, color.  Purchase $295; rental $50 from University of California Extension Media Center, 2176 Shattuck Avenue, CA 94704 (501/642-0460).Two copies of the review should be submitted in manuscript along with a copy on disk (IBM preferred, either 3.5" or 5.25" 2s/2d, although we can handle Apple disks as well).  All text should be in ASCII format.  E-mail submissions are also acceptable, but should be followed up with s-mail or FAX hardcopies.  In preparing files for e-sending, please insert line breaks between all paragraphs and convert to ASCII.Authors may keep books they receive for review, but will generally be expected to return videos or films.Reviews may be submitted using the "Manuscript Central" service at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/anoc
